'Shakespeare Uncovered' in Alaska

Join KUAC and the Fairbanks Shakespeare Theatre for a special series of events surrounding
the second season of "Shakespeare Uncovered," which returns to public broadcasting
in February to tell the stories behind Shakespeare鈥檚 greatest plays.
Local events leading up to the series include:
- Jan. 23, 1鈥3 p.m., Shakespearean "Afternoon Concert" on KUAC FM.
- Jan. 28, 10鈥11 p.m., "Alaska Live" featuring a new FST production of 鈥淎 Midsummer Night鈥檚 Dream鈥 on KUAC FM.
- Jan. 31, 4鈥6 p.m., free public event and early screening of the "Shakespeare Uncovered" exploration of 鈥淎 Midsummer Night鈥檚 Dream鈥 and scenes from FST's upcoming Gwich鈥檌n-inspired production of the same name. Also enjoy a panel discussion about the inspiration and language behind the production. The events will be in the Davis Concert Hall at UAF.
Like the first series, the second installment of "Shakespeare Uncovered" combines history, biography, iconic performances, new analysis and the personal passions and experiences of its celebrated hosts.
KUAC TV will broadcast the series at 9 p.m. on the first three Thursday nights in February:
- Feb. 5, 鈥淎 Midsummer Night鈥檚 Dream鈥 with Hugh Bonneville, followed by 鈥淜ing Lear鈥 with Christopher Plummer.
- Feb. 12, 鈥淭he Taming of the Shrew鈥 with Morgan Freeman, followed by 鈥淥thello鈥 with David Harewood.
- Feb. 19, 鈥淎ntony and Cleopatra鈥 with Kim Cattrall, followed by 鈥淩omeo and Juliet鈥 with Joseph Fiennes.
In addition, two other KUAC events will touch on Shakespeare in February:
- Feb. 8, 12-4 p.m., the Metropolitan Opera鈥檚 鈥淢acbeth鈥 featuring commentary from the Fairbanks Shakespeare Theatre on KUAC FM.
- Feb. 16-20, live drop-ins to Bard-a-thon during "Afternoon Concert" on KUAC FM.
