Get a grip on safety this winter

It’s time to start thinking about winterizing your home and yourself. For those who are new to Alaska, there is a lot of preparation you can do to make yourself comfortable in sub-zero temperatures. Layer your clothing and include hats and gloves, wear appropriate footwear, tune up your vehicle, pack an emergency kit in the car, including a blanket, and always maintain at least a half tank of gasoline. If you are traveling, have a contact that you can check in with once you get to your destination. It’s a good idea to carry a satellite or similar phone for remote travel, and medical evacuation insurance is a good idea.
The UAF EHSRM Department also offers complimentary ice/snow cleats to faculty, staff, and students. Avoid those pesky slips and falls! Just stop by our office at 825 Alumni Drive where any staff member can assist you to find the right fit.
