Theatre MSU brings the heat, razor-sharp wit to 2026 season

STARKVILLE, Miss.鈥斘蘧∽试床杉檚 Theatre MSU continues its 2025-2026 season this month with adaptations of 鈥淔ahrenheit 451鈥 and 鈥淪weeney Todd.鈥
Spring shows begin Feb. 18-22 with the production of Ray Bradbury鈥檚 鈥淔ahrenheit 451.鈥 Set in a future where books are outlawed and critical thinking is suppressed, the story follows fireman Guy Montag as he begins to question the society he has sworn to protect. 鈥淔ahrenheit 451鈥 was selected by MSU students, and its performance is a collaborative partnership with Department of Computer Science and Engineering students designing and executing projections for the production.

On April 16-19 and in collaboration with the MSU Department of Music, Theatre MSU presents 鈥淪weeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street,鈥 the Tony Award-winning musical about love, murder and revenge. Stephen Sondheim鈥檚 1979 tale follows the dark, comedic story of a barber seeking revenge against those who wronged him.
鈥淭he spring season offers audiences two very different theatrical experiences. From the urgency of 鈥楩ahrenheit 451鈥 to the dark humor and musical complexity of 鈥楽weeney Todd,鈥 these productions highlight the range and ambition of Theatre MSU and showcase the depth of talent and dedication of our students, from performance to design and technical execution,鈥 said Tonya Hays, Theatre MSU director and assistant professor in the Department of Communication, Media and Theatre. 鈥淭hese collaborations allow students to experience the kind of interdisciplinary work they will encounter in the professional world. They are tackling complex material that is both artistically challenging and deeply relevant to the world we live in.鈥
