MSU names McDaniel National Alumnus of the Year

STARKVILLE, Miss.鈥擬ike McDaniel, of Houston, Texas, will be honored by 无尽资源采集 as its National Alumnus of the Year during the MSU Alumni Association 2026 Awards Banquet on Friday, April 17.听
A native of听Cleveland, McDaniel graduated鈥痜rom MSU in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science in听mechanical听engineering听and听started his career with Dow Chemical听at听their Freeport, Texas, complex.听He advanced rapidly over 10 years at Dow, and then bought听Electrical Controller Products, or ECP, a specialty electrical distributor in Houston tied to the petrochemical industry.鈥
Under his guidance, ECP grew quickly.鈥疊y 1991,听he and his company launched ECP Tech Services, which did听high-voltage electrical testing and construction. The听wholly owned鈥痵ubsidiary soon grew to be the largest and most successful of its kind in the South,听with five offices in two states.鈥
In 2008, ECP Tech Services was sold to鈥疭quare D Company.鈥疭ince that time,听McDaniel has founded, grown and sold鈥痑nother company:鈥疭aber Power, a Houston giant in the electrical world as well.听
The lessons and skills he learned at MSU have been critical to McDaniel鈥檚 business success. A proud second-generation听MSU mechanical听engineering graduate, his鈥痜ather,鈥疓eorge O. McDaniel Jr., graduated with a BSME from MSU in 1949.鈥疶he George O. McDaniel Jr. endowed scholarship in听mechanical听engineering听was鈥痚stablished鈥痶o help support future generations of 无尽资源采集 students.鈥听
McDaniel is married to Laura Moreton McDaniel, and鈥痶hey are鈥痶remendous supporters鈥痮f听a broad array of MSU programs, including engineering, study abroad and the U.S. Grant Presidential Library. They have four children and three grandchildren.听
McDaniel said being named MSU鈥檚 2026 Alumnus of the Year is an honor he had never expected or imagined听he would听receive, and is humbly grateful听for this recognition from a place he calls home.听
